Champagne is one of the most traditional provinces of France, a region of France that is best known for the production of the sparkling white wine that bears the region's name.
Typical Day Itinerary
Morning
- Champagne breakfast at the château
either on the sunny terrace or in the Renaissance dining-room.
- A tour of the Côtes des Blancs
A short trip by bus into the prestigious vineyards of the Côte des Blancs to learn more about the fundamentals of making a good Champagne.
Late Morning
- Cellar-tour and tasting at the very beautiful ‘’crayeres’’
Part of Veuve-Clicquot Ponsardin, whose founder, Madame Clicquot is famed for her work towards perfecting the art of "riddling" and who created the idea of a "brand" in Champagne with the distinctive orange labels.
Lunch
- Lunch at Veuve-Clicquot accompanied by a fine range of Champagnes
Afternoon
A number of activities are arranged for this afternoon.
- An optional guided tour of Champagne
- A Champagne « Extra » tour. A visit of two small very high quality « boutique » growers
- Return to the château hotel for a relaxing afternoon enjoying the hotel’s facilities
Evening
- Tour and tasting of the oldest Champagne house, Ruinart, followed by an elegant dinner
Overnight
- Chateau de Fère
Set in the romantic village of Fère-en-Tardenois in the province of Champagne, the Château de Fère has elegant gardens and fine accommodation. There are actually two castles on the grounds. One, the Château de Fère was built in 1206 by Robert de Dreux, grandson of Louis VI. Now in ruins, it serves as a backdrop to the newer 16th century castle, the Hostellerie du Château.
The Château de Fère Hotel has fantastic facilities. You can revive your spirits over a game of tennis. Take to the air in a hot air balloon, or take a swim in the pool. There is also a golf course and the possibility to horse ride, cycle or simply enjoy a leisurely stroll through the beautiful surrounding forests.
