Treasure Hunt

Overview

Well we all enjoy treasure hunts. We always have, they appeal to our inner sense of curiosity and they satisfy our quest for knowledge whilst also provoking a little friendly competition.

At Arts and Travel we have been working on a series of treasure hunt with a difference. Based on the ideas given to us by countless successful TV programs (including the BBC Treasure Hunt series) we have devised a luxury, fun version that you can take part in.

Having decided on a location to run the treasure hunt we will go ahead and create a series of challenging clues that will eventually lead to a very unique gift and a cash bonus for the winner.

We can adapt this hunt to your requirements but the ideal is a cultural location of interest and luxury hotels with great dinners on the way to discuss your progress. We will organize all the activities on the way including great cultural visits by professional expert guides and all the transportation required including your very own personal car for the hunt.

So look through this example day of an itinerary we ran in Tuscany and contact us with your requirements, as long as you have a minimum of 8 people we can have a lot of fun whilst also learning and enjoying an interesting area.

Typical Day Itinerary

Morning Morning Morning

  • Breakfast on the terrace of our Florence Hotel where you receive your first clue of the day.

Late Morning Late Morning Late Morning Late Morning

  • We each take our own vehicle (One per couple), map and clue and drive through the countryside following the clues (we wont give them away) that will take us through:

    • Greve in Chianti
For a visit of the town centre and to find the second clue...
Greve in Chianti is named after the river that runs through it, is the chief town of the Chianti Classico wine zone, home to Chianti's largest wine fair, held every September. At the end of the Dark Ages, Greve developed on the flat ground of the Greve valley as the market for the fortified villages, castles and farm houses on the surrounding hilltops. In 1325 it was burned to the ground by Castruccio Castracani, the Duke of Lucca. Nevertheless, Greve expanded considerably during the 14th and 15th centuries, and, after the unification of Italy, became the most important centre of Chianti.
    • Radda in Chianti
For a small traditional tasting and to find the third clue...
Radda was recorded for the first time with certainty in an edict of the Emperor Otto III from 1003 when its Court and castle were owned by the Fiorentina Abbey to whom they had been donated by the Marquis di Toscana, to whom it was confirmed by the Imperial authority.

This was repeated several times in the following decade either by an act of succession by Ottone or by a series of Papal endorsements. Radda became a feudal possession of the Guidi Counts in 1220, by command Federico II. Towards the middle of the XIII century (the precise date is not known), Firenze affirmed its dominion here because of Radda's strategic importance. From 1176, Florence had jurisdiction over the greater part of Southern Chianti previously belonging to Siena.

    Lunch Lunch

    • Lunch at Volpaia
Arrival for tasting tour and lunch. Here the arrivals will be timed and listed. After lunch everyone will be given the current standing and our afternoon clue.
Just as in the 12th Century, the village itself still plays an essential role in our wine and oil production. The interiors of its ancient houses, churches, underground passages and deconsecrated churches have been discreetly converted into wine cellars, bottling plants and olive presses up to the ceiling in the latest equipment and all connected by an amazing underground "wineduct."

Thus Volpaia is not just another magnificent tourist attraction, but a thriving hive of activity whose inhabitants are all directly or indirectly involved in the winery.

    Afternoon Afternoon Afternoon

    • Once arrived back at base time to relax and use the spa or go shopping in town

    Evening Evening Evening

    • Dinner at the excellent “Cantinetta Antinori”
We will discuss the current standing and the excitement of the day. Latest standing will be published and a clue to the next morning activities will be given.

Located in an atmospheric 15th century palazzo, Cantinetta Antinori has a great Tuscan wine selection. The fresh produce and meats come from the restaurant's own farms.

    Overnight Overnight Overnight

    • Gallery Hotel Art
This hotel is devoted to the expression of art. Rooms are light and spacious, with large bright windows that frame the stunning views of the Ponte Vecchio and Florence’s medieval rooftops. Exhibitions of contemporary art and photography are held in the Lobby, Library and the Fusion Bar, making this one of the city’s hottest meeting points.

Gallery Hotel Art is part of the 'Lungarno Hotels', which comprises four luxury properties set along a picturesque stretch of the River Arno in Florence. Part of the Salvatore Ferragamo Group, 'Lungarno Hotels' is a logical extension of the luxury brand that has influenced Italian fashion for nearly 80 years.

The four properties are within walking distance of each other, and you immediately feel as if you are a guest of all of them. Their central location, with breathtaking views of the spectacular Ponte Vecchio bridge, mean that you are just moments away from the city’s major attractions, including the Vasarian Corridor, the Uffizi Gallery, and the Piazza della Signoria.
